For many years Bundaberg has been recognised as the gateway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef and a ‘must-see’ destination for natural sub-tropical encounters. Mon Repos Turtle Rookery, just 15 minutes drive from the CBD and 5 minutes from the seaside town of Bargara, is world-renowned as the largest mainland turtle nesting site on the East Coast of Australia. It is home to the endangered Loggerhead Turtle but thanks to conservation efforts numbers nesting increase each year.

The Bundaberg Regional Council area has a population of 96,000 with approximately half residing in the city. Bargara Beach is 15 minutes drive from Bundaberg or the Port of Bundaberg.
